Welcome to our new minister Rev. Kathy Hogman. She is pictured here with husband Rev. Armand Houle who is the current minister for Summerland United Church.
Rev. Kathy Hogman is a preachers’ kid. Her mother was ordained in 1948, her father in 1951. She spent her early years in Trinidad as a missionary family. They returned to Canada, to Winnipeg where they lived for 11 years.
She took her theology at VST and was ordained in 1984. Since then she has served Churches in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, BC and Alberta.
In BC she served in Port Alberni, 1995 to 2003. During that time, a former dormitory supervisor at the Alberni Indian Residential School was convicted on multiple counts of sexual assault. This precipitated a conversation about the Residential School within the congregation and led to the first apology presented in May of 1997. The national Church followed suit in October 1998.
Kathy returned to BC after an absence of 10 years and was asked to volunteer some of her time as the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Educator for BC Conference. She was happy to be able to do this as she was not serving a Congregation.
During the last eighteen months Kathy has done pulpit supply in the Okanagan Valley and most recently has been serving Osoyoos United Church in a .6 position. She lives in Summerland with her husband, Rev. Armand Houle. They have two grown children who they left in Edmonton pursuing their careers. Kathy is looking forward to working with Westbank United Church serving the mission of Christ in West Kelowna.
